I first wrote this article on March 5 which I published also in my blog at blogspot. From the original. I made very little revision in this article including the title.
Salvation through Yeshua HaMashiach (Jesus Christ)
Note: All Scriptures quoted are from “The Complete Jewish Bible (CJB) and the New International Version (NIV).
It is Finished!
John 19:30
After Yeshua had taken the wine, He said, “It is accomplished!” And letting His head droop, He delivered up His Spirit.’ (CJB)
When he had received the drink, Jesus said “It is finished.” With that He bowed His head and gave up His Spirit. (NIV)
This Easter season the world again commemorates for the nth time the death and celebrates the resurrection of the one Yeshua HaMashiach (Jesus Christ). However, to know the fact about such well-celebrated event is one thing, while to understand its essence is another. Though almost everybody knows that Jesus came to live with men and died to save men, the truth stands that many professing Christians do not really understand the finished work that gives them salvation for free. It is obvious from the different ways people remember His sacrificial death on the cross. In my country alone, Easter fanatics believe that submitting themselves to penitence or having themselves crucified would gain them heaven’s favor and wash their guilt away.
Jesus said as quoted above, “It is finished” or “It is accomplished.” The work of salvation culminated in His death and resurrection. You don’t have to go through crucifixion again for He already did it for you. Just believe and acknowledge the Lord’s death and resurrection and believe that He and His act alone is enough to save you from sin.
All Have Sinned and the Wages of Sin is Death!
Romans 3:23-24
“…since all have sinned and comes short of earning God’s praise. By God’s grace without earning it, all are granted the status of being considered righteous before Him, through the act redeeming us from our enslavement to sin that was accomplished by the Messiah Yeshua. (CJB)
“… For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” (NIV)
Romans 3:26
“For what one earns from sin is death; but eternal life is what one receives as a free gift from God, in union with the Messiah Yeshua our Lord.” (CJB)
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (NIV)
Yes, we are all sinners from the day we were born because sin entered the human race in the Garden of Eden when our first ancestors disobeyed God. We carry the sting of sin in our veins and vibrate it in our life 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. And God declared that the wages we earn of sin is death. We all deserve death, but God in His goodness and compassion for us- men and women created originally in His image, doesn’t want any of us to simply perish in death without doing anything. God who is eternally holy punishes sin with death that is not only physical, but spiritual, eternal separation from Him. Eternal separation from the Creator and the giver of life means eternity in hell. The horrible death we all face caused Him to do the most sacrificial act of all times, unequalled throughout eternity the death of His perfect beloved Son Jesus Christ.
The Lord Jesus took upon Himself the penalty that should have been for the entire human race. His love for us is what motivated Him to lay down His life to rescue us from the power of sin and death which have so overpowered every one of us; because our Creator knows very well our inability to resist that which is so ingrained in our very soul. We simply do not have the strength to break ourselves free from the web of sin, thus, death is our sure destiny. There’s no way we can get rid of our sins by any human means good works or religion. We need the divine intervention of God who Himself created us. And He did intervene, about 2000 years ago, again, by sending the Messiah Jesus.
Salvation is Free But It is Only Through Yeshua (Jesus)
Romans 3:26
“For what one earns from sin is death; but eternal life is what one receives as a free gift from God, in union with the Messiah Yeshua our Lord.” (CJB)
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (NIV)
Ephesians 2:8 -9
“For you have been delivered by grace through trusting, and even this is not your accomplishment but God’s gift. You were not delivered by your own actions; therefore no one should boast.” (CJB)
“For it is by grace that you have been saved, through faith- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- not by works, so that no one can boast.” (NIV)
John 14:6
Yeshua said, “I AM the Way- and the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except through Me.” (CJB)
Jesus answered, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (NIV)
John 3:16
For God so loved the world that He gave His only and unique Son, so that everyone who trusts in Him will have eternal life, instead of being utterly destroyed. (CJB)
God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. (NIV)
1 John 5:11-12
And this is the witness: God has given us eternal life and this life is in His Son. Those who have the Son have the life; those who do not have the Son of God do not have the life. (CJB)
And this is the testimony; God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. (NIV)
God knows, and, we should know that we are unable to save ourselves from sin and death. But again, in His awesome goodness He made salvation available to everyone who believes; but this provision is only found in His Son who is the way, the truth and the life as quoted above.
Yes, salvation is free, and if it’s free, that means you don’t have to work for it, or you don’t have to earn it. Why free? As quoted in Ephesians 2:8 above, it is free so that no one can boast; and let me add- for boasting is pride and pride is sin. If it is by grace and truly free, then great and small, young and old, male and female, rich or poor- everyone can come to God through His Son and receive life, eternal life in Him. Fame, money, social standing and all that the world considers an advantage are irrelevant. God doesn’t need anything from us except our humble admission of our helplessness and our acknowledgement of His Son Yeshua (Jesus) as our only Savior from our wretched condition. The eternal life that God has given us freely is available only through His Son. There’s no way you can buy your way to God except by the way He provided- Yeshua HaMashiach (Jesus Christ).
New Life in the Messiah!
Ephesians 2:10
For we are of God’s making, created in union with the Messiah Yeshua for a life of good actions already prepared by God for us to do. (CJB)
For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (NIV)
Galatians 2:20
When the Messiah was executed on the stake as a criminal, I was too; so that my proud ego no longer lives. But the Messiah lives in me, and the life I now live in my body I live by the same trusting faithfulness that the Son of God had, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. (CJB)
I am crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave Himself for me. (NIV)
Salvation, free as it is, is never cheap for it is only those who repent of their sinfulness and receive consciously the offer of forgiveness by receiving Yeshua (Jesus) into their hearts, making Him Lord over them, thus, living a new life of holiness through Him, will have themselves extricated from the consequences of sin. Acknowledgement of helplessness and submitting to Him mean repentance and repentance means turning away from the life of sin. Receiving Yeshua (Jesus) as your Savior and Lord means giving Him full control of your life, allowing Him to lead you through the new life of holiness and righteousness for that is the meaning of being saved from sin that leads to death. If you do so, then like Paul who declared in Galatians 2:20, you are crucified with Christ and it is no longer you who live, but Christ lives in you…
Believe in Yeshua HaMashiach (Jesus Christ), submit to His Lordship and acknowledge that He alone can take your guilt away. He died a terrible death to give you a new life. In Him there is peace, in Him there is freedom- freedom from sin and the curses that come with it. Yeshua offers you forgiveness of sin, salvation from death and a new life. It’s all yours for the taking. Let this Easter be the mark of a newly resurrected you through the resurrection of the Son of God, the only Savior and Lord, Yeshua..
Prayer of Repentance
If you have not given your life to Him, here’s a short prayer that will lead you to God.
“Father, I acknowledge that I am a sinner from birth; that I cannot save myself from this bondage. I repent of all the sins I have committed against you. Now I believe that only through your provision can I find my way back to you.; that provision is through Your beloved Son Yeshua HaMashiach (Jesus Christ) who gave up His life to take my place and redeem me from the penalty of death that my sinfulness deserve. I receive, you Lord Jesus into my heart. I now surrender my life to You, and lead me now in paths of righteousness for Your holy name’s sake, amen.”
Love in Yeshua HaMashiach,
Cynthia
